Maybe that's an overly dramatic title. I'm known for being "extra," as my husband says.
I work in administration at a private Christian School. It's CHRISTMAS TIME, and it's so fun to work with children during the holidays! To see the joy on their faces with all the decorations, the lights, the bright colors, the crafts, the treats, it brings joy to our hearts!
My Director sat down across from me the other day and asked...
"What do we do about Santa?"
Basically, how do we navigate Santa? If the kids can watch Frosty the Snowman and know it's not real.. can they watch Santa movies? Do we tell them he's not real?
Whoa - that could start an issue with some families. Some families celebrate Santa. We all have our own convictions to walk out.
After some back and forth and a few rabbit trails, we come up with this...
We won't push the idea of Santa.
Sure, there are "Santa things" out there and all around. Does that mean we add to the noise? Or do we, with all the capacity a school is capable of, bring the truth and light that truly belongs to this season.
Let's pause here - I don't think Santa is bad. But not everything that's good is God. (Whew, what a word)
Whoops - I see some feathers ruffled. Let me explain.
Instead of giving glory to Santa - we're going to give glory to the real meaning of this season. The main point. The ONLY reason we even have a Christmas.
The birth of Jesus Christ, our Savior.
Y'all.
That's a big deal.
He's our Hope, our Salvation, our Redeemer, GOD with us, Immanuel.
“Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’” Matthew 1:23 NLT
Don't let the celebration of Santa try to overshadow the birth of our Savior. Read the story of the first Christmas to your children. Let their faces light up in wonder over the birth of Jesus. OVER JESUS.
If Santa comes to your house this year - That's Great!
Just make sure Jesus is also there. Everything centered around Him.
Who are you celebrating this time of year?
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 NIV
